Another Ghost

So here's to you, like brothers tonight Tried and true, fading in the twilight I can hear you breathing, see your picture on the wall I would give you my wings. If they'd help you at all This city's growing cold, from the needle it heats. There's howling wind rushing through these Chicago streets Oh and you were dreaming of Alice, but you got wrapped in her chains And even midnight is burning, alive tonight, like the blood in your veins And this is my Twilight Serenade This is my Twilight Serenade and I'm singing for you I'm singing for you This crumbling moon, dressed in black and white Well it fades away, hiding, from you ghost tonight And you said, "hey man don't follow, " Oh but I was already there You were walking on tight rope But you were too young to care And this is my Twilight Serenade This is my Twilight Serenade and I'm singing for you I'm singing for you And I'm singing for you

Busted up road, like a firecracker ready to go Sing it out loud, from the city to the streets below If you would believe that I can make it if I try With you tonight, with you tonight... Because we're too young to lose Give me wings, baby just like a train We're too young to lose Well, every heartache is just a prayer for the vain And my heart's on my sleeve And all these highway signs are just fairy tales breathing in me And I know that I can make it last And I'm praying... I'm singing, Hey Hey Hey Down these avenues, gonna drive until the meter reads red Singing the blues, let this radio burn this engine ahead If you would believe that I can fake it if I try With you tonight, with you tonight Because we're too young to lose Give me wings, baby just like a train We're too young to lose Well, every heartache is just a prayer for the vain And my heart's on my sleeve And all these boulevards are burning through the darkness of dawn And I'm staring at the lights on the dash And I'm praying And I'm praying I'm praying I'm praying

Way to be kid, you did like they did You hid yourself behind those fancy clothes You always stop when you hit those walls You jump back because you're not happy being out alone Throwing stones at the factory windows There's a wind hanging heavy and it's swinging you around Just be yourself boy but watch what you say Because it's towns like this that don't miss a chance to talk you down I used to feel so strong The years went slow while the days grew longer The ground's so low I can hardly see So I'll just fly, ride so high Get the dust out my eyes and let me see the light Shining far from home My head is clear, but my heart is aching Just sing from the rooftops 'til your voice grows hoarse Just stand composed but I swear I feel my hands they're shaking I'm looking for a city I can call my own I used to feel so strong The years went slow while the days grew longer The ground's so low I can hardly see So I'll just fly, ride so high Get the dust out my eyes and let me see the light Get the dust out my eyes and let me see the light Shining far from home
4.
Oh my lady, sweet lady, ring them bells for me Because i am waiting to see you again from across the sea Ooh you were a mother to the moon But I am the light a million miles away Rosemary is in the window and she's counting the stars And like Orion with his arrow and his bow i am reaching eastward trying to find you where you are Ooh I'm not the only one for you And like a boat with no oars i am standing on these shores for you Like a blanket of city lights your eyes shine like the fourth of July And there's a diya in your window babe, but the fire don't know which way to fly Ooh and through the street cars of this train I saw a light it was dying as Orion slowly faded away Oh my lady, sweet lady, ring them bells for me Because I'm still waiting beneath the darkness for you to set me free Ooh and in the morning I'll be gone But every night with the moon I'll be the light in your room 'til dawn

This one's gotta little blues in it, for ya This one's gotta little blues in it, for ya This one's gotta little blues in it, for ya Ever wish the streets were filled with music Ever get tired of just waiting around Ever had someone mean so much to you that they start to drag you down This one's gotta little blues in it, for ya This one's gotta little blues in it, for ya This one's gotta little blues in it, for ya Ever want to do battle with the ocean Stand up after each wave knocks you down Keep on clapping those hands like a drowning man And say 'God dammit, I won't be pushed around" Ain't it funny how it all seems A O.K. But in the end it's like planting roses on a winter day It taste like sugar but it burns you to the bone I don't need your pity, I've got plenty enough of my own This one's gotta little blues in it, for ya This one's gotta little blues in it, for ya This one's gotta little blues in it, for ya

Window light, a lover's lament Scale these walls, damn that cement 'Cause I'm trying to keep your eyes from burning me You're so tired, but it's never enough City girls always acting so tough And I'm sinking, spinning from the way you're turning me You don't know the first thing about being in love It's hidden in the smoke rings that you blow up above And I'm Dancing Scarlet through the night Dancing 'til I get it right But I can't let you go, and I can't let you go Satellites of silver and gold Cheap wine by the side of the road And I'm running wherever those street lights will carry me You shine just like a diamond in the pouring rain Whispering through the rails like a ghost off a speeding train And I'm Dancing Scarlet through the night Dancing 'til I get it right But I can't let you go, I can't let you go No I can't let you go I can't let you go No I can't let you go I can't let you go

Burning daylight, he says he's alright I swear to God I never left home Sunday morning, he's always on him, and I don't know why he keeps wasting his time on me Where do you go when your river runs dry Chasing those ghosts was the most you tried (to stay alive) And I'm not gonna bend or burn away So stand right here my friend on these lonesome days Black as midnight, broken brake lights, I know you never thought I would believe That day is dawning, grace is falling, and I can see the smoke and the dust clouds rising high You try and you break me but still I rise (I've got too much pride) I'm running on empty but I can't hide these tired eyes And I'm not gonna bend or burn away So stand right here my friend on these lonesome days Say what you gonna do boy Oh when they try to drag you down Where do you go boy when they steal away like shadows that drive you miles and miles from home Where do you go when your river runs dry Chasing those ghosts was the most you tried (to stay alive) And I'm not gonna bend or burn away So stand right here my friend on these lonesome days

Take Me Away 03:54
He only drinks Bourbon when it's raining Gives a toast to the ghost of Rimbaud And she ain't got nothing that will capture his heart And like a soldier, in the wind, through the doorway he goes Girls on the street dressed in neon Damn son is that all you got? Well I'm dreaming of church bells and carnival shows And God knows it ain't easy when you run out of bridges to burn So take me away So take me away Whiskey Hey man, do you know where I am? Singing 'hey child, stay where you are' Well I know these ain't no prison walls But I'm stuck inside these bars And I don't know where I'm going, our how long I'll be there So take me away So take me away Whiskey
9.
Well I've got this megaphone But I can't sleep at all And it's ten below in Montreal And I'm slack-jawed and stuck outside Well I've got these orange peels and this stack of dimes And these staircase blues that are gonna blow your mind I'm a straight shooter Man I like your shoes Get ready boy 'cause it's coming round I can't even feel my feet now touching the ground And I'm wondering child how long it's gonna take to shake 'em down Well I've got this sledge hammer So I can break these stones I've got cheap cologne, so I won't be standing along What's a matter, can I shake your hand I've got these slot machines But only nickels and dimes Can I have a minute, babe, of your time? No, you hurt me with the things you say Get ready boy 'cause it's coming round I can't even feel my feet now touching the ground And I'm wondering child how long it's gonna take to shake them down

Irish Eyes 04:07
With her dancing shoes on, like some furious dawn She slips through the faces in the crowd Three sheets to the wind, I've been whiskey'd, I've been ginned And I'm breaking out, I'm screaming so loud Well she's wounded, but her hair is on fire And she sings like an angel in the choir Can't see roses without seeing the briars So I had to let her go And she left me with those Irish Eyes Oh she left me with those Irish Eyes There's one thing that I remember when I was staring down the line All you sweethearts are just criminals in disguise And all the local boys, they're all screaming, like they're the last living souls alive And I'm stumbling through the door like a fool tonight Well this heart's full of whiskey and blues And she spins in those dancing shoes If I can't win, I'm gonna play like I can't lose So she had to let me go And she left me with those Irish Eyes Oh she left me with those Irish Eyes She left me with those Irish Eyes She left me with those Irish Eyes

Final Hour 04:33
Final hour, final day Final flower, final rain Another lover, waiting on another who ain't never coming home Another woman, another ghost to me Final hour, final day Another battle, lost along the way Another preacher, saying all that you ever knew is not real The final spark before the darkness breaks Final hour, final day Final words that I could never say Final love that they can never take away Flesh and bone, another stone, hanging over me

about

Recorded in an old barn in Massachusetts, Another Ghost is a collection of songs fashioned together from the remnants of small-town anywhere. Born and raised in a quiet mill town, this is a world that Jason knows all too well, one full of streetlights, wishing wells, backyard brawlers, and busted-up roads. Influenced by late-night highway drives and the crackle of AM radio, this album deals with holding on to those things that are most important, memories that we relive time and time again, which revisit us like ghosts.

Moving between love ballads, dashboard elegies, and wild-eyed pub waltzes, Jason's writing here evokes the grace and economy of David Gray and his voice reverberates with the earnestness of Ray Lamontagne, moving tastefully between the plaintive and the bold, the sweet and the soulful, the ragged testimonial and the bittersweet lullaby.

With the help of friends Zack Hickman (Josh Ritter,Tarbox
Ramblers, Jake Armerding) on upright bass, accordion, lap
steel, and harmonica; Sam Kassirer (Josh Ritter, Erin Mckeown) on piano and Hammond organ; and Jack Shanahan (Jack & Present Co.) on drums, Another Ghost was self - released in April, 2005
